Stalwart setting sights on play-offs
Long-serving Paul Clayton wants Romford to build on their superb opening home win over Waltham Forest and reach the Ryman Division One play-offs this season.
Record appearance holder Clayton was among the goalscorers in the 4-0 win at Ship Lane in midweek and claimed it was the perfect response after their opening-day defeat at Needham Market on Saturday.
Paul Martin’s men host Waltham Abbey tomorrow (Saturday) before visiting Erith & Belvedere on Tuesday and Clayton said: “It was great to be back in action and it’s always nice to get on the scoresheet.
“The boys knew it was a must-win game if we want to push for the play-offs. We played very well, but it’s only one game and we must be consistent.
“Hopefully we can put a run together now and stay in touch with the play-offs.”
Boro came up just short last season, finishing in a highly respectable eighth place.
But manager Martin has kept the nucleus of his squad together and made a few additions, with Luke Stanley and Robbie Norris both catching the eye against Forest.
Clayton added: “The new players seem to be enjoying it and have strengthened the squad.
“We will be looking to take all three points on Saturday, especially being at home.”
Hull City manager Steve Bruce believes that Arsenal have the ability to win the league this season.
