Latest news from the Essex FA
At a recent Essex FA board meeting it was agreed that there would be no increase in affiliation or cup entry fees for 2014/15.
And it was also confirmed that the Association’s contribution towards clubs’ personal accident (PA) insurance policies would be increased from £15 to £20 per team.
A total of 50 per cent of the costs of basic PA insurance cover will also be supplied for youth teams and the County FA will continue to pay the entirety of clubs’ public liability premiums as part of a long-term commitment to reinvest money into the grassroots game.
Chief executive Phil Sammons was delighted to reveal the good news, saying; “After a long, hard season with all the weather interruptions it’s good to help ensure 2014/15 gets underway on the right foot.
“Access to subsidised insurance is one of the benefits we’re pleased to provide to our member clubs, whose costs to play the game are rising steadily all the time.
“We’re aware of exactly how expensive playing grassroots football can be nowadays and we’re constantly assessing ways which we can help.”
Before the start of the 2013/14 season it became mandatory for all clubs at every level of English football to provide at least a basic level of personal accident insurance for their players.
The Essex FA stepped in to allocate funds towards this new expense and have reinforced their commitment with an increase for the forthcoming campaign.
Clubs pay an annual affiliation fee to the Essex FA as part of their membership of the non-profit organisation, which includes a range of tangible benefits, as well as some which are less obvious.
By developing clubs throughout the area, as well as acting as their governing body, the county FA work mostly amongst the amateur sector of football, looking for new participants and ensuring the game is safe and enjoyable for all.
The Development Team provides coaching and funding to children and adults throughout the area.
Included within this sphere is the award of the FA Charter Standard, progressing female football, the promotion of minority groups within the game and the running of a series of courses and workshops to aid coaching standards. Strategies are in place to continue work in both the short and long terms.
The Governance Team are also on hand to provide assistance for volunteers at around 1,400 clubs - roughly 4,400 teams.
Essex’s County Cup competitions are organised every campaign, while representative teams are fielded to face other counties at Under-18, 16 and women’s levels. The xounty’s 1,600-strong referee list and schools football are coordinated as well, in addition to welfare case management and safeguarding children.
