Latest news from the Essex FA
Youth football clubs and leagues in Essex can count on the backing of the Football Foundation for assistance with the costs of new goalposts this spring when the first of two funding windows opens from March 18 to May 31 in support of the forthcoming implementation of the 9v9 format.
Next season’s review of youth football will require modifications to be made to some pitches and posts and the allocation of cash displays the Foundation’s support for the changes, aimed at generating more “child friendly competition.”
They’ve also accepted feedback and reviewed the process from earlier in the year to change the application process so it’s easier for both clubs and their county FAs to manage.
Each club or league can apply through the Foundation on a specially designed electronic application form. They’ll be able to apply for 50 per cent towards the cost of both 9v9 and mini-soccer goals and suppliers have been informed prices will need to be fixed for this period and be fully inclusive.
The forms also require detailed comments from the Essex FA, who will receive weekly updates of all local applications.
Last year The FA formally ratified some positive changes to improve the enjoyment, fun and development of young players, allowing more touches on a better proportioned pitch with an increased involvement in the game as a whole.
The changes will be phased in from 2013/14 season and there are resources available to assist, help and advise clubs and leagues on the changes to age groups, pitch sizes and laws of the game.
The FA recognise these present some challenges in the short term, but the allocation of funds towards goals from the Foundation is one of the sources of help to ensure football is more relevant and more enjoyable for young players.
The Foundation are the UK’s largest sports charity, investing £30million every year into grassroots facilities.
*Applicants will make full payment for the posts and reclaim 50 per cent upon presentation of the appropriate invoice to the Foundation.
On no account will retrospective payments be made. If clubs or leagues miss out on this opportunity for whatever reason, the second funding window will open on July 1 and close on August 30.
Full details will be published at www.footballfoundation.org.uk/apply/9v9-goalposts from March 18.
