Ryman One North: Romford 2 Aveley 0
Two goals in the space of five first half minutes saw Romford get back to business with a 2-0 victory over neighbours Aveley at Ship Lane.
Boro, without a game since January 25, were by far the better side and goals from Nick Reynolds and former Aveley player Ryan Imbert sealed the win for Paul Martin’s side.
Both sides took a little while to get going, but it was the hosts who looked the livelier.
Imbert warmed the hands of Aveley goalkeeper Jack Giddens on six minutes and the Millers ‘keeper had to be alert to divert a Reynolds shot behind for a corner minutes later following a ball across from Imbert.
However they went even closer from the corner as an effort struck the bar before Paul Clayton’s header was cleared off the line by Teddy Nesbitt with the hosts well in the ascendancy.
Nesbitt was involved up the other end as well on the 20 minute mark as he tried his luck from distance and had Boro goalkeeper Atu Ngoy backpedalling, but fortunately for the hosts the ball skimmed the roof of the net.
But other than that chance for the Millers it was all Boro and on 35 minutes they deservedly took the lead.
A ball into the box from Abs Seymour found Nick Reynolds who shrugged off the attentions of Glen Golby to loop a header over Giddens.
And that lead was soon doubled five minutes later when a lovely attacking move from Boro resulted in Tom Richardson threading a ball through for Imbert who coolly slotted past the onrushing Giddens.
It was nothing more than the hosts deserved after a strong first half showing, and though the second half lacked action, Boro always looked comfortable.
Aveley did try to get back into the game, and they had some joy down the left with George Whitelock though his delivery often lacked accuracy.
Within seconds of coming on Romford’s Eddie Hart had a chance for the hosts but he was met by Giddens who stoo tall to thwart the striker.
Aveley had a number of corners throughout the second period, with most dealt with competently. That was until the 74th minute when Boro failed to clear their lines and Kyle Asante’s acrobatic effort was well saved by Ngoy.
Late in to stoppage time Aveley substitute Joe Ellul headed wide from a Teddy Nesbitt free-kick, but the game had already gone by then and Boro were back in action and back to winning ways.
