Daggers may have lost Zavon Hines to injury, but new loan signing Blair Turgott hopes he can fill the void left by the former Hammer.

Turgott joined the Victoria Road side on loan from Premier League side West Ham United yesterday until the end of the season, and is available to go straight into the side for tomorrow’s home game with Oxford United.

And the England under-19 international hopes to make an instant impact.

“I am really looking forward to getting started at Dagenham,” said Turgott. “The team is doing really well at the moment and it would be nice to come in and have an impact straight away.

“I have had a training session with all the players and I have liked what I have seen.”

The deal didn’t take too long for Turgott to sort out once he had heard of Daggers’ interest.

The 19-year-old had spent last season with Hines at Bradford City and admitted his former team-mate helped make his mind up to join the team for the remainder of the campaign.

“I had the call from the West Ham United development team manager on Wednesday letting me know of the interest,” added Turgott.

“He told me it was a great opportunity and I should take it. I had a word with Zavon as well and he just said ‘go for it, it’s a good bunch of people at the club and you’ll enjoy yourself’.”

And while he won’t be playing alongside Hines after he was ruled out for the remainder of the season having had surgery on an injured knee, he hopes to do the former Hammer proud.

“I spent a lot of time with Zav last year at Bradford and it was an enjoyable time,” he remarked.

“I enjoyed myself at Bradford and it was a great experience. It is one I am glad I went for. I learnt a lot about myself in footballing terms and as a person in general. It was good to experience to move away from home for a little while.

“Not being able to play alongside Zav is disappointing and he’s been unfortunate with the injury but I am sure he’ll come back stronger from his injury. I hope I can fill his boots during my time with the Daggers.”

Saturday’s game is simply a must win for the Daggers if they want to keep their slim play-off hopes alive, and Turgott is pleased to be coming to a squad at this of the season still with something to fight for.

“There’s still a chance of the play-offs and when the opportunity came about I jumped at it,” he remarked

“I am raring to go if I am selected. I like to think I am an expressive player and I like to create and score goals. Hopefully I can do that during this loan.”
