Dagenham & Redbridge interim boss Wayne Burnett felt it was Bradford all over again when Rotherham equalised, but saw his side seal the win eight minutes from time.
Daggers interim boss Wayne Burnett insisted a hard week of training paid off as they won 2-1 at Rotherham on Saturday to complete a double over the South Yorkshire side.
Medy Elito put them ahead from the penalty spot after 58 minutes when he was pulled over by Kari Arnason, who was sent off for the incident.
But parity was restored eight minutes later when Claude Davis headed home David Noble’s corner only for Daggers to seal all three points when Luke Wilkinson fired past Andy Warrington from Matt Saunders’ free-kick eight minutes from time.
Burnett was relieved to pick up his first win since taking over on an interim basis but believed his first real week of training with the squad did the trick.
“It was a fantastic victory for us today, it was a tough game and it’s not an easy place to come to. I watched them on Tuesday against Oxford and they were very good,” said Burnett.
Like at Bradford on February 27, the Daggers let the lead slip and the former Grays Athletic boss felt lightening would strike twice.
“I thought it was going to be another one of those days when they equalised but the boys stuck in there and came through a tough game,” he added.
“We have worked hard this week in training and it was nice to see one of our set pieces come off.”
German forward Lukas Podolski has been linked with a switch to Juventus after being the most substituted of Arsenal’s attackers this season.
