Not for the first time Dagenham & Redbridge boss John Still felt his team left themselves with too much work to do in the second half.

Dagenham & Redbridge boss John Still believed his side’s first-half showing once again left them with too much to do as they succumbed to a 3-1 defeat at Northampton.

The Daggers found themselves 2-0 down in the first half for the third time on the trot and Still felt the opening period resembled the performance against Port Vale only three days earlier.

“I thought we weren’t really up and at it, but I don’t actually think we were in any danger until the first goal went in,” said Still.

“Without playing well I felt we dealt with everything that they produced – long throws, corners – but were two down at half-time. A different team came out in the second half.

“The make-up of our team wasn’t good enough in the first half, we never played the way we know we can play. In the second half we did and it was a different game.

“If you play that way for 90 minutes and get beat you go, ‘Okay that’s fair enough.’

“But we only did it for 45 minutes, a bit similar if I am honest to the Port Vale game.”

And the Victoria Road chief cannot fathom why his side have gone from being a tight defensive unit to one that has conceded nine goals in the last three games.

“We have gone from being really secure defensively as a team to one that isn’t secure,” he added. “We haven’t played the way we believe is right for us and we perhaps need to look at that in training.”
