League Two: Dagenham & Redbridge 1 Burton Albion 1
Josh Scott scored his second goal in as many games as Daggers picked up a solid point at Victoria Road on Saturday against promotion hopefuls Burton Albion.
Following Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with Torquay, Wayne Burnett’s side reverted to a 4-4-2 formation with Ben Strevens back up front to partner Josh Scott.
Gavin Hoyte played a more forward role at right midfield and skipper Abu Ogogo went to right back.
It was a low key affair early on and the early chances came the way of Burton as Billy Kee flicked an effort over Chris Lewington’s bar and the Daggers goalkeeper then gathered a Calvin Zola header.
An early warning sign was there when Robbie Weir drilled an effort from just outside the area wide, while Daggers first attack came in the 21st minute when Josh Scott’s shot was deflected over after a nice dummy from Strevens.
On the half hour mark Wayne Burnett’s side went close as Burton had goalkeeper Stuart Tomlinson to thank for keeping out Matt Saunders’ free-kick.
But four minutes later and the Brewers were in front when Jacques Maghoma squared the ball for Lee Bell and, in a similar position to Weir earlier, drilled his shot low past Lewington.
The Daggers were struggling to keep hold of possession but Burnett brought on Louis Dennis at half time for the ineffective Medy Elito.
The hosts came out brighter in the second half and inside six minutes were level as Ogogo laid the ball into the path of Scott, who jinked his way through on goal and toe poked past Tomlinson.
Scott almost made it two when he neatly brought down Ilesanmi’s cross but his shot was blocked.
Burton then made a double change with Matt Paterson and Adam Drury on with 12 minutes left and they almost made an instant impact.
Luke Wilkinson gifted possession to Zola on the edge of the area and he fed Drury wide on the right who played it in for Paterson but he drilled it just wide.
And in stoppage time, Maghoma had a great chance to give the visitors all three points as his deflected effort had everyone panicking but fortunately it landed on the roof of the net.
With the point Daggers moved on to 47 points, seven clear of the relegation zone with as many games remaining.
