Captain Abu Ogogo previews tomorrow’s game at Rotherham United.

Daggers and skipper Abu Ogogo have some fond memories of playing Rotherham of late and he’ll be hoping to add to that on Saturday at the New York Stadium.

Alongside Scott Doe, Ogogo is the only player in the squad which played in the play-off final win of 2009-10 season at Wembley.

They were also part of the Daggers team which won 5-0 at Victoria Road earlier in the season, but a third success won’t be quite so straightforward.

The Millers go into the game off a 4-0 win at Oxford on Tuesday night and although the former Arsenal man would love a first victory for interim boss Wayne Burnett, he knows the pre-season favourites are a tough cookie to crack for the Daggers on their travels

“I have and I am sure the club have had a lot of good memories of late against Rotherham,” said Ogogo.

“The Wembley day will live with everyone and then we beat them 5-0 earlier in the season. But I am sure they’ll want revenge for that as well. We need to put a little run together and another three or four wins should get us the points we need.

“Rotherham had a good result the other night against Oxford so we know it will be tough but it’s at a nice stadium so hopefully we can do well. We seem to be doing better away from home at the moment so let’s hope that bodes well for Saturday.”

Ogogo suffered the disappointment of shipping his third own goal of the season last weekend in their 1-0 home defeat to Chesterfield and that’s certainly a statistic he didn’t want to be reminded of.

“Unfortunately I conceded the own goal and I did try to redeem myself with the last kick of the game but I hit the post,” he added.

“I have never scored one before in my life and I have gone from that to scoring three in the season which is weird. But in all fairness there is little I could do with any of the three.”

This season the 23-year-old has varied his role between right back and central midfield, which can’t be easy but there is one position he does prefer.

“I certainly prefer the midfield role, I feel I have the attributes to do well there in midfield, while I have also developed a good partnership with Luke Howell,” he said.

“Gavin Hoyte has had a little spell out but has come in at right back and done very well but we have got solid partnerships all over the field.”

And while it has been the first full week in charge for Burnett at Victoria Road, Ogogo believes the subtle differences applied by the former Grays Athletic man will work.

“It’s been the first week we have been able to get down to proper training and at this stage of the season you can’t make major changes,” he added.

“He’s taken over and tweaked a few things and when he gets the job full time he’ll be able to make a few more adjustsments.”
