Daggers boss Wayne Burnett confirmed midfielder Luke Howell’s injury is keeping him out slightly longer than expected.
The 27-year-old damaged his ankle in a challenge against Scunthorpe United in the 3-3 draw on January 25.
And though earlier signs suggested the lay-off would be short term, the former MK Dons man has still been in some discomfort with the ankle.
“Luke’s rehabilitation isn’t going as quickly as both he and we would like,” said Burnett. “We initially expected it to be a couple of weeks, but he’s feeling some pain still in the ankle.
“It’s something we are going to have to assess all the time and see how he is progressing, but he’s still going to be out for a little while.”
Burnett managed to add to his squad last week with the loan deal for Charlton Athletic striker Ade Azeez.
The 20-year-old came off the bench as Daggers lost 2-0 at home to Hartlepool United on Saturday, but Burnett hopes with some minutes under his belt, he’ll begin to adapt to life at Victoria Road.
“He’s quick, tall and has the ability to run at people and I feel he can enhance our squad,” he added.
“He’s been playing some development games at Charlton and he’s had some experience in the league with Torquay, Orient and Wycombe.
“He’s trained hard this week and hopefully with one or two games, we can see his strength.”
