Dagenham & Redbridge may be able to call upon the services of Luke Wilkinson and Matt Saunders on Saturday against Newport County after the duo came through a friendly on Tuesday unscathed.
Wilkinson and Saunders missed the whole of pre-season with groin and heel injuries respectively, but they both came through a match with Southend, which they lost 3-1, unscathed with midfielder Saunders managing 65 minutes while last season’s player of the year Wilkinson played the whole game.
And assuming both show no signs of any setbacks in training today (Thursday) they may play some part in Saturday’s game.
But boss Wayne Burnett will let his medical staff assess the duo first before making a call on whether they can feature, be it starting or off the bench.
“Both of them have got some more minutes under their belt and have showed no ill affects so far,” said Burnett.
“I am really pleased with their recovery, Matt got 65 minutes and Luke came through the entire 90 minutes.
“But we’ll wait and see whether they report back for training with no setbacks and we’ll go from there.
“They may not walk straight back into the side and they may not be fit enough to start but they might be available to play a role off the bench if required.”
Afolabi Obafemi was the Daggers goalscorer in the 3-1 loss to Southend, who netted through Don Cowan, Jack Payne and Michael Timlin.
Hull City manager Steve Bruce believes that Arsenal have the ability to win the league this season.
