Mark Hughes’ 89th minute goal denied the Daggers all three points at home for the seventh game in succession as Morecambe nicked a late point at Victoria Road.

After a goalless first half which the hosts dominated in terms of chances, they took the lead when Medy Elito scored from the penalty spot after 52 minutes.

But after that little was created by the hosts and Mark Hughes was unmarked in the box to fire past goalkeeper Chris Lewington to grab the Shrimps a share of the spoils late on.

Daggers made two changes from the side which won 2-1 at Bristol Rovers on Tuesday with the injured Luke Wilkinson and Billy Bingham replaced b Scott Doe and Ashley Chambers, who was making his first start since joining on loan from Cambridge United.

After a quiet opening five minutes the Daggers won a free-kick on the edge of the area and Luke Norris managed to squeeze the ball through a gap in the wall.

However, Morecambe goalkeeper Barry Roche got down well to his right to palm the effort away from danger

The Daggers continued to be on the front foot in a dominant opening quarter of an hour, with Scott Doe and Ade Azeez both heading good chances over the bar.

Morecambe won their first corner of the came on 25 minutes and when the hosts could only clear it to Joe McGee who tried his luck from 25 yards.

The effort was off target, but it had home goalkeeper Chris Lewington scrambling.

Daggers were still having the better of the play and a great run from Ilesanmi saw the left back dink the ball into the box for Norris to head on, though Roche saved comfortably.

The scores remained goalless at the break and it was the hosts again on top in the early stages of the half.

Elito and Chambers had been impressive in the opening 45 minutes and the two combined for the first chance of the second period.

Elito’s corner was met by the former York City winger at the back post but his header into the ground struck the top of the bar.

But on 52 minutes Daggers did find the breakthrough and it came from the penalty spot.

A shot on goal was handled in the box by Chris McGready and referee Tim Robinson pointed to the spot

And Elito, just like at Exeter City last weekend, converted the penalty despite Roche diving the right way.

That did seem to liven the visitors up though and Shrimps substitute Jack Redshaw had an almost immediate impact.

One effort was well tipped behind by Lewington and the Daggers had Chambers to thank for clearing off the line following an inswinging corner from the left with 20 minutes left on the clock.

The hosts offered very little on the front foot in the closing stages and it was the Shrimps who nicked a late leveller.

The ball found its way to skipper Mark Hughes unmarked inside the six-yard box and he fired left footed past Lewington in a late killer blow for the Daggers.
