David Ball’s 78th minute goal proved the difference between the two sides as Fleetwood picked up all three points, though Daggers were denied a contentious late leveller.

There was little for either goalkeeper to do throughout the match, with Wayne Burnett’s side having the clearer cut the chances in the second period.

But the Cod Army made the most of their only second half opportunity when Ball netted, however, the Daggers were denied a point when Rhys Murphy’s effort was judged not to have crossed the line with a minute to spare.

Daggers made three changes from the side which lost 3-1 at York last weekend, with Lawson D’Ath, Jack Connors and new loan signing Dominic Samuel coming in for Luke Wilkinson, Femi Ilesanmi and Medy Elito respectively.

The early pressure came from the visitors and Jeff Hughes, a scorer in the reverse fixture at the start of the season, drilled an effort wide with Daggers goalkeeper Chris Lewington at full stretch after just two minutes.

Samuel was looking sharp and some early trickery saw Cod Army skipper Mark Roberts cautioned after bringing down the Reading loanee on the halfway line.

The hosts struggled to get going though and the closest they came in the half was after 22 minutes.

A lovely ball over the top from Connors found Murphy and Fleetwood ‘keeper Scott Davies put the ball behind for a corner after being drawn out of his goal.

Murphy took the corner quickly and released Hines but his dangerous ball into the box was headed behind by Nathan Pond.

A miscued pass from Connors almost led to the opener though on 26 minutes when his clearance was mopped up by Fleetwood, and Hughes’ effort was denied by the feet of Lewington.

Samuel’s debut was to end abruptly though after taken a knock on the ankle which forced him off just before the break

The early signs in the second period were promising for the Daggers as Hines saw a shot blocked behind by Pond for a corner, and then Saah headed straight at Davies from Hines’ dangerous free-kick.

Daggers were very much in the ascendancy and Scott Doe managed to divert another Hines delivery goalwards, only for the effort to be cleared off the line.

Chances were coming their way but again for the second week in succession they were made to pay on 76 minutes.

Connor McLaughlin was allowed too much time and space to deliver a ball in from the right which found Ball who took one touch to control the ball before firing low into the bottom corner past Lewington.

Daggers began to push forward and Elito shot into the side netting from a Lawson D’Ath cross, but the talking point came a minute from time.

The ball fell to Murphy on the left hand side of the area and he chipped the onrushing Davies.

Murphy himself thought the effort had crossed the line but Roberts got back to hack clear off the line.

The striker was booked for his strong protests to the linesman, and tat proved to be their final chance and it was another missed opportunity for the Daggers as they slipped to their second successive defeat.
