Dagenham & Redbridge boss Wayne Burnett was “embarrassed” by the defensive errors which cost the Daggers in their 3-1 loss at York City.
After a plethora of missed opportunities in the first half for his side, they were made to pay by a more clinical York, who when presented with the chances, ultimately made the most of them.
Ryan Bowman netted the opener after Chris Lewington’s poor clearance, and though the second from Wes Fletcher was unfortunate, a poor throw in saw Fletcher profit once again.
Rhys Murphy made it 12 for the season with a late consolation, but after all that, Burnett was flabbergasted at his side’s individual errors
“We were the better side in the first half, without doubt,” said Burnett. “But you have got to score when you are on top. Abu Ogogo has had a great chance, Medy Elito has had a great chance and two have been cleared off the line. What more can you do? But you have got to take them opportunities.
“It is absolutely embarrassing. I am embarrassed to concede the goals in the manner in which we did.”
The defeat was their seventh on their travels, which is among the poorest in the league.
Yet that’s in comparison to having one of the best home records, and Burnett believes if the Daggers are to doing anything this season, that away record has got to improve.
“We have to regroup, we have to get back to what we do but we have been poor away from home,” he added.
“Our record at home is good but away from home isn’t good, we’ve conceded way too many goals on our travels as well.
“We have to get better away from home and that’s what the disappointing thing about our season is so far.”
