Bingham to miss a month with medial knee ligament injury.

Dagenham & Redbridge will be without midfielder Billy Bingham for at least a month, despite the MRI scan on his injured medial knee ligament revealing he won’t require any surgery.

The central midfielder had been enjoying a good run in the Daggers side until he collided with team-mate Brian Saah in the first half of the 1-1 draw at AFC Wimbledon on November 26.

And while his loss is a big blow for manager Wayne Burnett, he insists it’s now time for the likes of Matt Saunders and Reading loanee Lawson D’Ath to step up to the plate.

“Billy doesn’t need surgery which is the good news, but it will still be at least four weeks before he can start training again,” said Burnett.

“He’s been a big player for us so far this season, so it’s disappointing that he’ll be out for a while, but it does give an opportunity for Matt or Lawson to vie for Billy’s spot in the team.”

D’Ath missed the Wycombe Wanderers home game after picking up an ankle injury just before joining up with the Daggers in a reserve team game for the Royals against QPR.

And though the midfielder has been left waiting to make his Daggers debut, Burnett is excited to have the 20-year-old at the club.

“He’s an exciting midfielder with an eye for goal,” said Burnett. “I was delighted to be able to bring him in and I thank Reading have been great with letting us have him for very little.

“He is back from injury now and if I call on him he’ll be ready to play a part at Oxford on Saturday.”
