An innovative development programme that supports new musical theatre talent is coming to the Queen’s Theatre.

Writers and producers in the borough are invited to apply for a project which supports composers and musicians who are keen to write musical theatre.

10 Minute Musicals is organised and delivered by Leeway productions in partnership with Wales Millennium Centre and they will be coming to the Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch on Tuesday, October 2.

The event provides an opportunity to see five new musicals in development at a fun and relaxed evening as they present new musical theatre ideas written and composed by ten aspiring musical theatre creators.

The company is specifically looking for fresh innovative voices who are willing to push boundaries and play with form and creatives with a passion for the continued development of their practice.

Angharad Lee, Leeway productions director said: “We encourage a continued conversation with creatives and believe that this creative development project is a great springboard towards casting a new light on how [Queen’s Theatre] usually work.”

He added that 10 Minute Musicals includes networking, development and examining of current practice and provides the support artists need when evolving, progressing and advancing their writing skills for this genre.

The project was born in 2016 due to a significant gap in provision for those wanting to upskill themselves when thinking about writing for musicals or music theatre in Wales.

Expressions of interest can be submitted as an individual artist or as an existing writer or composer team.

Applicants are asked to send their name, email address, phone number and a short example of their work along with a CV or bio and what they wish to gain from this opportunity.

They must be able to commit three weekend workshop dates in September and will share their work at the 10 Minute Musical event on Tuesday, October 2 at the Hornchurch theatre.

For more information about this creative development project visit queens-theatre.co.uk or email artistcallout@queens-theatre.co.uk.

Artists should apply by Wednesday, August 22.

Tickets for 10 Minute Musicals are £10.50. To book call the Box Office on 01708 443333.
