Angela turns Fury hopes to ashes
19 February 2010
GREAT Britain international Angela Taylor fired a hat-trick to help Lee Valley down Romford Fury in their English National League derby.
Taylor netted twice inside the final four minutes to complete her treble and lift the Lions to a 6-4 success, only their second win of the campaign.
Romford were without suspended defenceman Robbie Veares and goalie Danny Kruse, following their ejections against Bristol, and were frustrated by the hosts early on.
They lost Simon Kears to a 2+10 penalty for checking from behind in the seventh minute, but failed to take advantage of a pair of powerplays as the first period ended scoreless.
Lions broke the deadlock in the 24th minute when Yassim Ahrazem struck, but Fury were back on terms just 33 seconds later as Ricky Mills set up Joe Berry to score.
Ahrazem restored Lee Valley's lead before the second interval and Taylor made it 3-1 in the 45th minute.
Ahrazem's third goal of the game left Fury with it all to do, but the visitors rallied thanks to a powerplay goal from Mills.
Captain Sam Park then cut the gap to one in the 51st minute and set up former Lion Michael Jacobs to level just 36 seconds later.
Taylor restored the home side's lead with 3:49 remaining, though, and made sure in the final minute to complete her treble.
Lions: Yassim Ahrazem 3 Angela Taylor 3 Calum Heath 0+1 Ian Courtney 0+1 Richard Hodge 0+1 Graham Lewis 0+1 James Hatfull 0+1 Lee Stobie 0+1.
Fury: Sam Park 1+1 Michael Jacobs 1+1 Ricky Mills 1+1 Joe Berry 1.
*ROMFORD Fury meet Lee Valley again at Rom Valley Way on Sunday in a match brought forward from March 6, so the senior Raiders can entertain Manchester on that date instead.
Raiders owner John Scott said: "Following great assistance from the Fury, Lee Valley and the Romford Junior Ice Hockey Club, we can announce the postponed Manchester game has been re-arranged.
"Special thanks go to Lel Worsell who spent countless hours in brokering the re-arrangements.
