Comfortable wins for duo

27 November 2009
HAROLD WOOD recorded another Olympian League Premier Division win without hitting top form at the weekend.

Champions Wood fell behind against White Ensign in a lacklustre first-half display.

But the home side dominated in the second half and eventually drew level when an Ensign defender put the ball into his own net.

Chris Wolff missed from the spot before Wood took the lead with a curling Sam Wilson free-kick from the edge of the box.

And a close-range finish from substitute Jon Manzi, after a mistake from the visiting keeper 10 minutes from time, sealed the points and a fifth win in six outings for Wood.

Lee Hammond's men travel to Frenford tomorrow (Saturday) as they look to close the gap on leaders Kelvedon Hatch.

Mountnessing also celebrated a 3-1 Premier Division win, away at Westhamians.

Mount fell behind in the very first minute when Brian Suchley netted for the newly-promoted hosts.

But the visitors dominated after that and were back on level terms in the 25th minute when Francis Wright set up Luke Pain to slot home from close range.

Westhamians held firm in the lead up to half-time, but substitute Sener Suavi's pace caused them lots of problems after the restart.

Danny Gilley put Mount ahead on the hour, after getting on the end of Pain's corner, and Scott Williams sealed the points as he smashed home a shot from outside the box following good work from man of the match Barrie Fox.

Romford Reserves returned to action in Division Two with a 3-0 win over Leytonstone United.

Billy Fairbanks netted a brace and Will Blohm was also on target for Boro, while the visitors missed a penalty. Boro visit Burnham tomorrow.

Upminster were 3-1 winners at Shenfield in Division Three.

Kevin Sewell, James Hosier and Rob Finnegan were all on target for Upminster, while Tom Brown replied for the home side.

The reserves remain undefeated after an exciting 4-3 win over Sungate.

James Lakey hit a hat-trick for Upminster, with Steve Foster also on the mark, while Stuart Long, Bradley Gormer and Tommy Mottram replied for Sungate.
