Upminster return to top

05 February 2010
Upminster returned to the top of the Olympian League Division Three table with a 3-1 home win over Springfield.

Danny Williams, Kevin Sewell and Pat Webber were all on target for the hosts, as they replaced Cranes United - beaten 1-0 by Wadham Lodge - at the summit.

Upminster play host to Debden at Hall Lane tomorrow (Saturday).

Paul Jeffries netted a hat-trick as Upminster Reserves eased to a 4-1 victory at Sandon. Scott Andrews was also on the mark.

Romford Reserves were edged out by Division Two leaders Old Chelmsfordians, going down 2-0, but they entertain Mountnessing in the League Cup tomorrow (Saturday, 1.30pm), as defending Premier Division champions Harold Wood visit Rayleigh Town.

There was better news for one of Romford's academy sides, as they secured their first win of the season in the Football Conference Alliance.

Romford Gold battled back from 3-1 down, with 15 minutes left, against Bromley Whites to win 4-3, thanks to a brace from Liam Higgins and goals from Amar Akbar and Michael Bullman.

Paul Tighe said: "It was a fully deserved first win of the season. They showed great determination and battling qualities to come from 3-1 down. All 13 players that played a part were heroes."

Romford Blues lost 5-3 to Southend Manor, despite goals from Deano Thwala (2) and Chris Webb.
