A ROMFORD singer/songwriter has scooped a Grammy Award, becoming just one of three British acts to walk away with a gong from this year's star-studded ceremony.
Imogen Heap picked up the award for the Best Engineered Album, Non Classical for her album Ellipse at the 42nd Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, January 31.
The pop artist, who incorporates elements of rock, dance and electronica into her music, collected her award wearing her own designer outfit.
Called the Twitter dress, the outfit boasted a necklace consisting of messages from her fans on her Twitter page, which were relayed to her jewellery through a wireless router.
Imogen, 32, also walked onto the stage with her handbag, again specially designed to contain an Iphone, with photographs that people were sending to her online.
Picking up her award she said that the outfit was a way for her fans to come with her to the ceremony.
"I just thought it'd be nice for them to come with me so I've got a live Twitter feed from them," she told the audience.
"All the way through making the record I had so much encouragement and love via Twitter, YouTube or MySpace and it really helped me to crack the whip in the studio."
Imogen has clocked up 1.5million followers on Twitter and her songs have been played more than 44 million times on Myspace.
The singer first hit big when her track Hide And Seek was used in the US teen drama The OC.
In a spate of a few hours, Imogen who was previously unknown, was being talked about with Radio One DJ Zane Lowe describing Hide And Seek at the time as "the hottest track in the world". It also topped the iTunes download chart.
Before going it alone, Imogen who is a classically trained pianist, sang in electro band Frou Frou.
